Author Sandra Rivera Sanchez educates children on the importance of recycling and protecting the ocean in her first book, Los Caballitos De Mar Se Mudan De Coral. Muuaaa’s design captures the book’s message by using texture that resembles construction paper and other recycled materials.

Book Design

The Muuaaa design team developed a design that fuses illustration and collage to evoke the feeling that kids could’ve done it themselves. Each page is filled with a lot of unique elements to create a sense of discovery with the young readers. This allows children to discover new parts of the book each time they read it.

Each of the book’s three parts is given its own color palette to match the story arch. They colors start off bright, darken in the middle, and brighten back up at the end. For the typography, Muuaaa chose a big, round, fun, and easy legible font in order to simulate a kids handwriting and make it accessible to kids of all ages.
